As part of a final year class project, Thomas needed to convey his principal theme in the form of a vehicle: creating a paper boat that sailed the edges of a book which, when opened, revealed the cut-out vortex of OCD inside, an experience not dissimilar to drowning, but a tethered anchor represents the truth that there’s always a way out.

Spanish sculptor Isaac Cordal started the Cement Eclipses project in 2006, mixing urban street art with sculpture and photography.

Cement Eclipses is a critique of our behavior as a social mass, said Cordal in an interview with The Rooms Magazine, it refers to a collective inertia that leads us to think that our small actions cannot change the course of history. I believe that every small act can contribute to a change. Many small changes can bring back social attitudes that manipulate the global inertia and turn it into something more positive. Cement Eclipses ultimately has a poetic background in which tiny figures become survivors in the urban environment.

The small sculptures placed against the big cities really create an overwhelming feeling of isolation. Definitely thought provoking!

Cement Eclipses has been spotted in several European cities including Berlin, London, Brussels.

Snuffy was replacing Big Bird who usually opened the show with a joke. Snuffy was so nervous, and got so frustrated because he was making mistakes, that when a child (the nephew of Frankie Biondo our cameraman) came up to get an autograph and called him the wrong name, Snuffy ate him. Literally.

[…The puppeteer] was able to put Snuffy’s mouth down around the boy and once he was mostly inside, Marty could pick him up and hold him upside-down inside the costume. The boy was able to put his hands onto Marty’s feet and then stay there as Snuffy walked off the stage. The boy was so good, he even succeeded in kicking his legs as he was “swallowed.” As a person in the audience, I never laughed so hard in my life.

At the next season wrap party, Snuffy came on to start the show again, but he wasn’t feeling well. He had a tummy ache for some strange reason. Suddenly, he started to heave, and he “threw-up” the same boy from last season, now wearing a tattered shirt and covered in goo.

Erik XIV of Sweden. King Erik’s paranoia completely consumed his life and his sanity. It wasn’t unusual for people caught laughing, smiling or whispering within Erik’s earshot to be sentenced to death for treason. He had an entire family imprisoned in his castle and later murdered simply because he believed they were too influential. After the executions, King Erik wandered outside to the woods and disappeared for three days. He believed himself to be his own brother for a period of time, and in 1568, that brother really did take over the throne after advisors deemed Erik too compromised to wear the crown. Though Erik took his paranoia to the extreme, he may have been justified: when he met his end in 1577, it was the result of poisoned pea soup. [source]

Yes, you do have a legal right to bear arms. But James Holmes had in his possession an AR-15 assault rifle, a Remington 12-gauge shotgun and a 40-caliber Glock, with another Glock sitting in his car. Constitutional right aside, can I ask you why you think any one person would need to have access to this kind of arsenal? Why? And don't give me any "Guns don't kill people" bullshit.

Frankly, so he can deter attacks from an unjust sovereign. In other words; so he can kill people.

The sad truth is that the right to bear arms is not just a right to recreation or a right to hunt or even a right to self-defense versus lone assailants - it is meant to protect the people should their government attempt to dominate them (assuming, of course, that democratic action has somehow failed to protect them). Yes, that’s very open to debate. Can someone start shooting cops just because their political party lost an election? What if that election loss meant they were denied a right, like the right to marry? What if the lost election required them to somehow lose their means of financial support, or it meant the ruling party can declare that people in comas were “technically not alive” and could be taken off life support if cost effective - and you had a family member that was at risk? Typically, we are not so estranged from one another that these issues require us to get out guns - and those people that do are thought of as insane because they act outside the norm. The non-crazies know that you can’t kill someone just because you lost an election, but rather that rebellion against the government should really only be reserved for when the government comes to take you to a death camp.

The right to bear arms, as a means of protecting yourself from Big Brother, is worthless unless you can attempt to match Big Brother. Maybe we should be taking the big guns away from our military and our police and our people.

Certainly, however, right to bear arms or no - there isn’t a very valid reason not to require background and sanity checks before we start handing over goddamn weapons of mass destruction. (So long as you trust those that would be the final arbitrators of madness.)
